Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehabilitation Services
Cardiac rehabilitation is a medically supervised program designed to optimize a cardiac patient’s physical, psychological, and social functioning, in addition to stabilizing, slowing, or even reversing the progression of the underlying atherosclerotic processes, thereby reducing death and disability.
If you have experienced a heart attack, stent, or open heart surgery, you may be a candidate for Cardiac Rehabilitation. We currently offer phase II cardiac rehabilitation for patients with a physician referral. Diagnosis’ that may qualify for our program include:
- Myocardial Infarction
- CABG
- Stable Angina
- Heart valve repair or replacement
- CHF (must meet guideline)
- Heart Transplant
If you have ever been diagnosed with a chronic pulmonary disorder you may be a candidate for pulmonary rehabilitation. We currently offer phase II pulmonary rehabilitation for patients with a physician referral. Diagnosis’ that may qualify for our program include:
- COPD (emphysema, chronic bronchitis)
- Asthma
- Pulmonary Fibrosis
- Lung Transplant
- Cystic Fibrosis
- Pulmonary Hypertension
Our program is typically 36 sessions, patients attend 2-3 sessions a week. Our classes are held in group format, however the program is individualized to help patients reach their goals through lifestyle modification. The exercise equipment we have available are:
- Nu-Steps
- Recumbent Bike
- Treadmills
- Arm Ergometers
- Elliptical
- Weight Machines
- Free Weights
- Resistance Bands
We are an AACVPR certified program and adhere to ACSM and AACVPR guidelines. If you have any questions or concerns about our program, please call us. All experiences with the program can be modified to help you reach your goal.

Exercise for Life
Exercise for Life is a private pay membership program where participants have independent use of equipment in the Cardiac and Pulmonary rehab department of Rutherford Regional Medical Center. Participants can choose to use equipment any time during open business hours, as many times per week as they choose. A signed waiver from your physician allowing participation is required. No contract required.
Exercise and More
Exercise and More is an enhanced private pay membership program for those who have heart or lung disease, decreased function and/or recent hospitalizations. The program is based on a medical model supervised by staff trained to handle medical emergencies. Daily checks pre and post exercise include accurate blood pressure check by staff, heart rate and rhythm check, oxygen saturation level, weight check, and expert counseling with an exercise physiologist is included with this program. A referral from your doctor or medical provider will be required in order to participate in the program.
Live Free, Smoke-Free
Live Free, Smoke-Free is a private pay membership course that incorporates a multi-disciplinary approach addressing the most difficult challenges for those who have decided to quit smoking. Participants will develop new healthy habits to assist them in transitioning to a smoke-free life. The course is taught by a certified smoking cessation facilitator. Participants will meet with a registered dietician and exercise physiologist, and exercise will be incorporated into each session.
Cancer Exercise Program
Cancer Exercise is a private pay membership program designed for patients who are currently taking treatments or currently recovering from cancer. The goal of this program is to increase your endurance and strength, improve your dietary intake, and put you on the right track to a healthy lifestyle.
